Despite a 0-1 deficit and a not always completely convincing performance, FC Bayern deservedly won 3-1 against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday and showed themselves to be prepared for the upcoming Bundesliga top duel with Bayer Leverkusen. After the game, coach Thomas Tuchel seemed anything but euphoric. The reasons: the substitution of Alphonso Davies and the attacks of the last few weeks.
“A very important victory,” emphasized Thomas Tuchel on “Sky” after his FC Bayern’s success against Borussia Mönchengladbach, but also admitted: “The game was difficult.”
“We had very good chances early on, but couldn’t take advantage of them, then Gladbach scored the first time they penetrated our box. The game got complicated, but Pavlovic’s goal just before half-time gave us peace. After Harry’s goal, we had space with which “We were able to work and then we managed to score the third goal after a set piece. We have now won against Augsburg and Gladbach, two teams that we have had problems against in recent years. That is very positive,” said Tuchel, The Munich team will next have to compete against leaders Bayer Leverkusen (February 10th, 6:30 p.m.).
It is then questionable whether Alphonso Davies can be part of the game. The Canadian had to be substituted shortly before the score was 3-1. Davies “twisted his knee. We’re waiting. I’ll be at a loss for words if it happens again, especially now that he’s getting back into shape.”
The left-back missed large parts of last season. Recently, critical voices about his performance have increased.
In addition, it is also not certain that Joshua Kimmich and Dayot Upamecano, who were recently absent, will return against Leverkusen. Everything depends on how the duo gets through the upcoming training week, explained Tuchel.
FC Bayern: Tuchel sweeps Hamann’s apology off the table
Tuchel was also confronted with the apology of ex-national player Dietmar Hamann, who had quoted Tuchel incorrectly during the week and was then counted by FC Bayern.
Overall, however, the former Munich midfielder has often been noticed because he did not present Tuchel’s work at FC Bayern in a particularly positive way.
“Boundaries have been crossed,” Tuchel made clear. Hamann’s apology doesn’t count for him. “I don’t care whether he apologized or not. I don’t buy it.”
Hamann had accused Tuchel of a public flirtation with FC Barcelona, and Tuchel, in turn, only spoke positively about football in Spain and the league.
