FC Bayern made attacker Harry Kane the most expensive purchase in Bundesliga history this summer after tough transfer poker. Tottenham boss Daniel Levy, known as a difficult negotiating partner, allowed the English national team captain to move to Munich for at least 100 million euros. At a fan forum at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the club boss said that the “Spurs” would have the opportunity to bring the 30-year-old back under certain circumstances.

“There is a buyback clause,” said Levy, who was quoted by the reputable newspaper “The Times” is quoted. Kane is “welcome back at any time. Harry is a very loved and valued member of the ‘Spurs’ family and will forever be in our history.” The 61-year-old did not reveal how high the option should be and from when it would be valid. It seems at least questionable that the FCB agreed to such an option in the agreed contract. Kane signed a four-year contract with Bayern until 2027 and recently spoke to “Sports Illustrated” about a “fantastic” start with the German record champions.
Update 9:19 p.m.: Bayern’s sports director Christoph Freund commented on Levy’s statements on the streaming service “DAZN” during the Champions League duel with Manchester United: “We’re not saying anything about that. We never reveal anything about contract details. The fact is that Harry is there, has left the island for the first time with conviction. We have a four-year contract with him. We will announce this – as with other contracts. (…) We are very, very happy and are planning long-term with him at Bayern. He will shape this team and a time. I am convinced of that. (…) The transfer was completed for four years. He feels extremely comfortable, is really getting into it now, is really having fun and has big goals with FC Bayern for the next few years.”
Update 9:50 p.m.: Consistent media reports from England as well as information from the TV station “SkyAccording to Kane, the addition to Kane’s contract is not a direct buyout clause. Rather, Tottenham has the right to an offer should FC Bayern receive an offer from another Premier League club for the striker. In that case, the Munich-based company would have to inform the Londoners, but would not be obliged to accept an offer from White Hart Lane made at the same time.
He hinted in a farewell video that the London club’s record goalscorer (278 goals in 430 games) could one day play for his beloved hometown club Tottenham again: “It’s not a farewell because you never know how things will develop in the future . It’s a thank you and I’ll see you again soon.” Levy only let Kane go after weeks of poker, using one or two tricks along the way.
Munich’s CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen often had to conduct the negotiations in the middle of the night, Honorary President Uli Hoeneß revealed in an interview with “Welt am Sonntag” at the end of August: “When the transfer seemed to fail last night, I thought to myself “Actually, handshake agreements should still be valid for a while,” said the 71-year-old. “If everything is clear – go one better. We had a verbal agreement at midnight, but at 2:50 a.m. it was called into question again. “It was a larger amount that night,” reported Hoeneß. But Dreesen then said: “Not a penny more!” On August 12th, Kane officially became a FC Bayern player.

Manchester United did without Harry Kane: coach ten Hag relies on Højlund
The veteran was also traded to Manchester United, but the interested “Red Devils” ultimately preferred to pay 75 million euros to Atalanta Bergamo for center forward Rasmus Højlund. Man United, plagued by injury concerns, is relying entirely on the qualities of the 20-year-old Dane. Coach Erik ten Hag does not regret that his employer decided not to buy Kane. “No. We are happy with Rasmus. He is a great talent,” explained the Dutchman before the Champions League opening game against Bayern on Wednesday (9 p.m.).
The top English club started the season weakly with three defeats from five league games. “From the beginning of last season I almost never started with the best starting eleven, there was always something like an injury. But you have to deal with it and we have always achieved results, apart from the phase we are in now,” said ten Hag. Nine professionals are not in the squad due to injuries, plus Jadon Sancho (sorted out for the time being and in individual training) and Antony (released following allegations of abuse), who are currently unavailable.
