FC Bayern | Threat to Thomas Tuchel: “This could have consequences”

On Wednesday evening, FC Bayern suffered a bitter setback: After the 1-2 disgrace in the DFB Cup at third division team 1. FC Saarbrücken, the Munich team had to bury their treble dreams early. Ex-professional Jan Aage Fjörtoft expects consequences for coach Thomas Tuchel.

Just before the eagerly awaited Bundesliga classic against arch-rival Borussia Dortmund on Saturday evening (6:30 p.m./Sky), things are simmering at FC Bayern.

Due to the disgrace in Saarbrücken, the first title was once again lost early in the season, plus increased personnel concerns and avoidable anger with the loyal fans – the problems are profound.

Suddenly coach Thomas Tuchel is in demand as a crisis manager, although his team’s form curve had been pointing upwards for weeks before the cup exit. Now, however, the mood is threatening to change.

Former Frankfurt player Jan Aage Fjörtoft, who now works as a TV expert, sees restless days ahead for FC Bayern and Tuchel. “This could have consequences for Tuchel,” the Norwegian speculated on X (formerly Twitter).

Tuchel setback in the “power struggle” at FC Bayern?

Fjörtoft added, however, that he did not mean to imply that Tuchel could possibly lose the job he only took up in March.

“He won’t be fired now, but he has lost strength in the power struggle that is always part of life at FC Bayern,” said the 56-year-old. The result in the DFB Cup “wouldn’t help” Tuchel.

In the Bundesliga, too, the successful series champions are currently only second in the table behind Bayer Leverkusen. From the first nine matches, the Munich team got seven wins and two draws.

In the Champions League, however, everything has gone according to plan so far: all three group games have been won and the round of 16 is within reach.
