FC Bayern thought about special measures

At the end of March, FC Bayern separated from Julian Nagelsmann as head coach. The decision came during an international break. Julian Nagelsmann was on a skiing holiday at the time. The club is therefore said to have considered a special option.

According to “Bild”, those responsible at FC Bayern were thinking about “passing Nagelsmann at the ski lift”. In the end, there is said to have been a telephone conversation with the then management duo consisting of Oliver Kahn and Hasan Salihamidzic.

Nagelsmann is said not to have been informed of the upcoming release during the conversation. Instead, Kahn and Salihamidzic summoned the trainer to Säbener Straße to clarify the matter personally. In the end, FC Bayern decided to part ways with Nagelsmann, who took over from Hansi Flick in the summer of 2021.

“After the World Cup, we played less and less successfully and attractively, the strong fluctuations in performance called into question our goals this season, but also beyond this season. That’s why we have reacted now,” explained Kahn in an official club statement at the time.

Salihamidzic spoke of the “most difficult decision in my time as the sporting director at FC Bayern”.

Kahn and Salihamidzic at FC Bayern are also history

Thomas Tuchel was then installed as his successor. With the 50-year-old, the Munich team was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the Champions League and the DFB Cup later in the season.

In the Bundesliga, FC Bayern had to tremble until matchday 34. Only a surprising mistake by Borussia Dortmund and a late away win at 1. FC Köln gave the German industry leader the trophy. Kahn and Salihamidzic then had to leave.
