Rumors about Real Madrid

Coach Thomas Tuchel also knows that Alphonso Davies is not performing the best at FC Bayern. The current situation is hindering the left-back rather than inspiring him, the Munich coach admitted before the Bundesliga catch-up game this Wednesday (8:30 p.m.) against Union Berlin. “We talk to him a lot, we let him play again and again, even if he is a little behind his absolute top form,” said Tuchel about the 23-year-old Canadian.
Under then-coach Hansi Flick, Davies became a Munich regular in the 2019/20 triple season, impressed with his high-speed football and reached his highest market value of 80 million euros. He has been valued at 70 million euros for around three and a half years now, making him still the world’s most valuable professional in his position.
The national player, bought from the Vancouver Whitecaps in January 2019 for a fee of 10 million euros (up to 18.8 million possible due to bonuses), no longer shows the consistency he used to have and continues to make mistakes. “Overall, he lacks a bit of self-confidence over a longer period of time,” said Tuchel. Davies has to “go a step further”, for example in duel behavior, but people will “continue to trust” him.
Davies is a “very fine and sensitive guy”, as well as “sensitive and self-critical”. Therefore, the dip in form also leaves its mark on the native Ghanaian, whose contract in Munich runs until the summer of 2025. The fact that there is constant speculation about Davies’ future and a possible move to Real Madrid should not leave his lightheartedness unaffected. At “Royal” he is considered the first choice for the coming season. Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund has repeatedly said he wants to extend Davies’ contract. Initial discussions with him have already taken place, as Freund confirmed in November.
