Almost 24 hours after FC Bayern’s 3-0 defeat against Bayer Leverkusen and Thomas Müller’s headline-grabbing interview, the 34-year-old once again addressed the record champions’ fans with emotional words.
“Yesterday’s game was an absolute nightmare for us,” Müller wrote about a picture that he posted on Instagram and that shows the Munich team with slumped shoulders in front of their own fan curve after the final whistle.
At the same time, the international took his hat off to the Werkself, who dominated the record champions for long periods on Saturday and could have scored one or two more goals. “Congratulations to Leverkusen. They are currently on an incredible run,” said Müller, who was a fair loser.
Müller: FC Bayern has to “set things straight”
According to his own words, Müller is far from giving up on the next championship. “The fight for the title is not over yet,” he wrote.
At the same time, he also noted: “But before that we have to put a few things straight. The next chance and a very important game awaits us next Wednesday,” he said, already looking ahead to the upcoming Champions League game against Lazio .
Müller gives a frustration interview
Müller had given vent to his anger about the game in Leverkusen in an interview with “Sky” shortly after the final whistle. Above all, he took his teammates to task.
“You can see a few symptoms on the field. I miss some of us players… We are much braver in training. We lack courage. […] We are too caught up in our heads. It’s okay to feel pressure, but there has to be energy too. We play from A to B and C. We have no freedom. That’s what’s missing in our game,” the veteran put his finger in the wound.
Meanwhile, Thomas Tuchel wanted to take Müller out of the firing line. “Sometimes you have to talk about the players. It’s not just about the coach. We have a lot of players of international caliber on the field. It’s also about a certain level of game intelligence. We have to improve,” said the offensive man.
