In the past few weeks and months there has been repeated speculation about Matthijs de Ligt’s departure from FC Bayern. FC Barcelona, a European heavyweight, is also said to be looking for the defender. But the Dutchman now sees his future on the Isar.
As “Bild” reports, the departure of coach Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season had a decisive influence on Matthijs de Ligt’s future planning. If Tuchel had remained coach, “he would have been gone,” it is said.
But now that it is Tuchel who will be leaving the club, de Ligt sees light at the end of the FCB tunnel again. It looks “very good” that the Dutchman is staying, reports “Bild”.
Bayern star on the list at Barca and Real
In theory, the central defender would have a well-known alternative in FC Barcelona. “Bild” confirms rumors from Spain that the Catalans are toying with his commitment. However, Barca simply does not have the money to be able to finance a transfer of the Dutch international.
However, FC Barcelona is not the only club that would like to sign de Ligt. It was only in mid-February that “fichajes.net” reported that the 24-year-old was also being discussed at Real Madrid. To what extent this corresponds to the facts can only be speculated, especially since the Real-affiliated “Marca” has already written that the Royals will not be upgrading their central defense next summer.
Either way, FC Bayern has the upper hand in de Ligt’s case. The Dutchman’s contract runs until the summer of 2027. Even in the event of a departure, the Munich team could at least look forward to decent financial compensation. But it now looks like it won’t even get that far.
