FC Bayern: Talks with Ryan Gravenberch are delayed – not free of charge

Ajax talent leaves the future open

FC Bayern is currently planning two departures in the position of central midfielder for the new season, writes “sports1“. The candidates are Corentin Tolisso (27), whose contract is expiring, and Marc Roca (25), who hardly gets a chance. Ryan Gravenberch from Ajax Amsterdam has come into focus as a possible replacement, with whom there are said to have been informal discussions. But further negotiations are delayed for the time being.

As the “Algemeen Dagblad” reports, one reason for this is the health of Gravenberch’s advisor Mino Raiola. The 54-year-old had to undergo an operation in Milan in January and is said to be recovering from it. “It’s up to my agent and my father,” the 19-year-old Ajax talent told the Dutch daily when asked about his future.

Gravenberch is still under contract in Amsterdam until 2023, talks about an extension are said to have come to a standstill. “I don’t know if I’ll go next summer. What I do know is that I won’t leave if Ajax don’t make any money from me,” Gravenberch said. Among other things, due to the practically sealed free transfers of the professionals Noussair Mazraoui (24) and André Onana (25), who are being courted in Europe, the Eredivisie club should be ready to let Gravenberch go with a corresponding transfer proceeds in the summer. “De Telegraaf” put the sum at 25 and 30 million euros.

“I played here all my youth. Ajax have always been good to me. I have a lot to thank the club for,” emphasized Gravenberch. “Then I can’t go on a free transfer. That won’t happen.” The youngster is one of Ajax coach Erik ten Hag’s permanent staff this season and has played a total of 30 games to date (one goal/four assists). In the age group up to 20 years, the 1.90 meter giant is one of the ten most valuable midfielders worldwide.

FC Bayern turn: Gravenberch leaves possible Ajax farewell open

The ten-time Netherlands international knows many talents have had a rough time abroad at a young age. “On the other hand, stepping out of your comfort zone isn’t a bad thing. Another league, another football, another life, other people around you. But that can also happen at the age of 22, for example,” Gravenberch explained. “I start from my own qualities and if it happens next summer I’m ready for it. But it’s not that far yet.”

After a corona infection, Gravenberch lost his place in the Ajax starting eleven for the time being. “It’s no wonder. I was out for a while and the guys did well,” Gravenberch said. “I’ve never experienced that in my career. Sooner or later you have to deal with it. Then you just have to fight back. Especially now, when the Champions League starts again. That’s what you’re looking forward to the most.” On Wednesday (9:00 p.m.) Ajax meet Benfica Lisbon in the round of 16 first leg.
