U national player of the DFB
The German-Austrian Paul Wanner from FC Bayern Munich, who previously played for the DFB U-national teams, has now also been invited to a training course for the Austrian Football Association for the first time. This decision was made after discussions with the 16-year-old “and his environment”, said the ÖFB. In the summer, the youngest professional and youngest Champions League player in the Munich club’s history contributed three goals for the German selection at the U17 European Championship, which failed in the quarter-finals against France.
The training course includes perspective players born between 2000 and 2005 and will meet in Pula, Croatia, from November 21st to 25th. “The squad does not claim to be complete, there are also many other players on our watch list. I think we have an interesting mix here,” explained sporting director Peter Schöttel. The assistant coach of the A-Elf coached by ÖFB head coach Ralf Rangnick, Peter Perchtold, recently announced in a Transfermarkt interview that the screening should “provide a valid overview of the absolute top talents in Austrian football and the league, because we see great potential there.”

In addition to Wanner, Benjamin Kanuric (Arminia Bielefeld) and Tristan Osmani (FC Schalke 04) are two other young talents who are currently on the squad. As early as February, shortly after Wanner’s first appearances for FC Bayern professionals, the ÖFB had signaled interest in the services of the youngster, who was born in Dornbirn. In view of the supposedly better sporting prospects at the DFB, he reckoned there was little chance of convincing Wanner to change associations, “but I have to do my job,” Schöttel explained at the time, adding that Wanner was “an extraordinary talent,” man However, I do not want to do “anything actionist”.
At the time, DFB manager Oliver Bierhoff reacted to Schöttel’s solicitation, confirming “fair talks” with his neighbors and, with regard to Wanner, announced that the German association would “always try hard for him and we hope to continue to shape this path successfully with him to be able to But step by step.” In that regard, one is “in good spirits”.
