Munich on Friday, Oldenburg on Saturday, Istanbul on Monday and Wednesday, Madrid on Friday and Gießen on Sunday: This is not the route of a particularly travel-loving ground hopper, but the current reality of the schedule for the FC Bayern Munich basketball players after a corona quarantine.
On Saturday evening, Munich lost 75:106 in the Bundesliga at relegation candidates EWE Baskets Oldenburg – and were not particularly unhappy with it.
“Our squad was the best we could have given the circumstances and the challenges ahead. We’re not particularly unhappy after this game,” said Slaven Rimac, who had replaced the absent head coach Andrea Trinchieri.
The game started in Oldenburg less than 20 hours after the Euroleague game against Belgrade on Friday evening. In terms of stress, the people of Munich are currently acting like the teams from the NBA, who often play on consecutive days in the tight schedule.
