While the desired nine in Harry Kane has long been found and has so far been hitting the Bundesliga game after game, FC Bayern is still looking for a six. Above all, coach Thomas Tuchel is driving the search for a classic defensive midfielder. Now the people of Munich are said to have found a candidate at Manchester United. This could possibly even come in exchange for the dissatisfied Ryan Gravenberch.
FC Bayern is still looking for a classic six, a so-called “holding six”, i.e. a player who – unlike Joshua Kimmich or Leon Goretzka, who are viewed more as an eighth due to their offensive drive – holds his position in front of the defense and there fills the gaps. It is precisely this type of player that head coach Thomas Tuchel would like to have in his team before the end of the transfer. But the search has not been easy in the recent past, because numerous traded candidates fell through the cracks or signed – like Declan Rice – somewhere else. The latter, for example, was hired by Arsenal FC in the Premier League.
But right there, in England’s top division, Munich are said to have found a suitable candidate for the sixth position. According to information from “Bild”, those responsible for Bayern are dealing with Scott McTominay from Manchester United. The 26-year-old Scot came to the Red Devils as a youth and still has a contract there until 2025.
FC Bayern: Is Gravenberch going on loan?
While the English record champions largely relied on the services of the 1.91 meter right foot last season, McTominay has hardly been in demand this season. For this reason, the 39-time Scottish international should probably be given up.
According to the report, those responsible at McTominay in Munich are considering a loan. In the end, it could even end up being an exchange deal, in which Manchester United in turn borrows a player from Bayern Munich. We’re talking about Ryan Gravenberch here.
Scott McTominay is an issue at Bayern Munich
The young Dutchman has been dissatisfied with his seasons in the recent past and is currently hardly taken into account by coach Tuchel. It is therefore conceivable that the 21-year-old midfielder will go to the Red Devils on loan. It has recently been traded there several times.
Gravenberch’s contract in Munich runs until 2027, the FCB bosses should value the Dutchman and do not want to sell him, they say. A loan, on the other hand, seems possible and could help Gravenberch, who came to Säbener Straße from Ajax Amsterdam for almost 20 million euros last year.
So does McTominay replace Gravenberch and vice versa? The Scot played a total of 211 competitive games during his professional years with ManUnited. In these he scored 19 goals and presented five goals.
