Soccer national player Leon Goretzka from FC Bayern Munich is enthusiastic about the return of his former club FC Schalke 04 to the Bundesliga.
“Not only for me, but overall for the whole of football Germany, it’s nice that Schalke is where it belongs,” said the 27-year-old Goretzka after the 2-2 draw with the German champions on Sunday evening against VfB Stuttgart.
National goalkeeper and Bayern captain Manuel Neuer commented briefly and succinctly on his home club’s comeback in the first division: “Very good. Good luck!” Born in Gelsenkirchen, Neuer played for Schalke from 1991 to 2011.
Born in Bochum, Goretzka moved to Munich on a free transfer in 2018 after five years as a Schalke professional. The Royal Blues had made the direct resurgence perfect on Saturday evening with a 3-2 win in the home game against FC St. Pauli on the penultimate second division matchday. “I watched the game. I think it was also a treat for the whole of football in Germany,” said Goretzka.
