FC Bayern shortens the gap to Wolfsburg

The footballers at VfL Wolfsburg can still lose. The defending champions lost 2-1 (1-1) to TSG Hoffenheim on matchday 13 of the women’s Bundesliga and suffered their first Bundesliga defeat since October 2021, also against TSG. FC Bayern Munich reduced the gap to two points by beating Werder Bremen 2-0 (1-0) on Sunday.

“It was fundamentally just not enough, both defensively and offensively,” criticized VfL captain Alexandra Popp at MagentaSport: “Maybe it’s a damper at the right time. You can see: If you don’t give 100 percent, a game will end like this.”

National player Jule Brand (1st) ensured the lightning lead of the wolves against her former club. Sarai Linder (44th) equalized shortly before the break. A few minutes earlier, VfL central defender Marina Hegering had been replaced due to injury. The Austrian Nicole Billa (70th) then let the Hoffenheim team cheer.

Lea Schüller (41st) and Maximiliane Rall (78th) were successful for the Munich team. Bremen’s Nina Lührßen saw yellow-red in injury time.

In the race for the Champions League, TSG is three points behind third-placed Eintracht Frankfurt, who opened the match day on Friday with a 4-1 win against SC Freiburg.

The six-time champion Turbine Potsdam can hardly be saved from relegation. The tail light lost the basement duel 0:3 (0:2) at the previous penultimate MSV Duisburg on Sunday.

The former Champions League winners from Potsdam, who have been looked after by their new coach Marco Gebhardt since Wednesday, still only have one point after the 13th matchday.
