After the bitter 1: 3 bankruptcy against RB Leipzig, ex-national player Dietmar Hamann also included coach Thomas Tuchel in his sweeping attack against FC Bayern.
“If I have a new coach who loses more in 11 games than his predecessor in 37 games, I can’t say that the team is solely to blame. The coach obviously has a part to play. We don’t know how much,” Hamann said on the talk show “Sky 90”.
Tuchel came “to make things better”, but with his signature at Bayern “the coaching effect fizzled out,” explained Hamann. The team “didn’t get any better with Julian Nagelsmann’s successor. If anything, they’re even playing worse than before.”
According to Hamann, Tuchel gambled away against Leipzig when occupying the corner. After a corner kick of their own, the German record champions equalized to make it 1-1, which turned the game in favor of the guests.
“Your six (Joshua Kimmich, editor’s note) shoots the corner and Leon Goretzka is in the box. I can’t remember the last time he scored with a header. One of the two has to be in the penalty area and Heading the ball away or playing a foul. And then behind that is Joao Cancelo, who didn’t invent defending either. That was student-like, that was amateurish. I have to blame the coach for that. That was a mistake. That has caused a goal and probably cost Bayern the game,” Hamann rumbled.
FC Bayern: Dietmar Hamann calls “the disappointment of the season”
Hamann described national player Goretzka as “the disappointment of the season” in the FC Bayern squad. “I would have thought he was a pillar, a pillar. But he’s completely gone. And the same can be said of many others.”
The Munich squad is basically “excellent”, but there are “too few workers. You need players who are willing to sacrifice themselves for the team. You need three or four players in the team who do others better. And they they don’t have them at the moment,” said Hamann.
The unrest in the management floor as an explanation for the poor performance of the professionals is “too easy for today’s TV experts. The players have a contract with FC Bayern, not with Oliver Kahn or Hasan Salihamidzic.”
