FC Bayern is looking for a new coach to replace Thomas Tuchel in the summer. The name Xabi Alonso comes up again and again. Now there is apparently an initial trend – to the delight of Bayern.
Thomas Tuchel will no longer be head coach at FC Bayern by summer at the latest. A preferred candidate at Bayern is Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso.
Apparently there have already been initial contacts and discussions between the two parties. This is reported by the TV channel “Sky”. The German record champions drew positive signals from these. As the report states, Alonso is currently leaning towards FC Bayern.
No final decision has been made yet
But: A final decision has by no means been made yet. In the event of a possible coaching transfer, the club would probably have to transfer 15 to 25 million euros to Bayer Leverkusen. The amount also depends on the number of titles that Alonso wins with the Werkself this summer. The following year, a fixed sum is anchored in the Spaniard’s contract. According to Sky, interested clubs would then have to pay around 15 million for the successful coach.
At FC Bayern, however, there is cautious optimism that Alonso can be lured to Munich as early as 2024.
“You have the information that if he changes, then he will go to Bayern and not to Liverpool,” said Sky reporter Florian Plettenberg on “Sky”. The possible competitor from England is probably not an issue. “Alonso says that Liverpool and the Klopp legacy are a difficult number. You could lose more than win,” said the transfer journalist.
Alonso took over Leverkusen in the basement of the Bundesliga in autumn 2022 and has now shaped them into a sensational frontrunner.
If the plans with Alonso fall through, FCB already has further plans in the drawer – including some surprise candidates.
As the “Abendzeitung” reports, Arne Slot could “become an option” in Munich. The Dutchman currently works for Feyenoord in the Eredivisie. His contract in Rotterdam runs until the summer of 2026. But Xabi Alonso remains the desired solution.
