FC Bayern reports De Ligt transfer: Most expensive central defense in the world

Transfer from Juventus perfect

After striker Sadio Mané (30), FC Bayern Munich made the second king transfer of the season perfect with central defender Matthijs de Ligt (22). The Dutchman, who is leaving Juventus after three years, has signed a contract with the German record champions until 2027. According to Munich, de Ligt traveled on to the USA immediately after the medical check and signature to take part in the preparatory trip for the new season with the team.

De Ligt will cost FC Bayern a transfer fee of 67 million euros, and another 10 million in bonuses can also be added. Juventus, who had paid 85.5 million euros for Ajax’s own growth in 2019, confirmed the conditions in a stock market report. Only for de Ligt’s future defensive colleague Lucas Hernández (26; 2019 for €80 million from Atlético) did Bayern Munich hand over more money on the transfer market. Together they will form the most expensive central defender duo in football history in the future – if Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann plays with a back three, Dayot Upamecano (23) will probably add the 42.5 million addition from the previous year.

De Ligt is also in the top 5 most expensive central defenders in history for the second time. With a total of 155.5 million euros, De Ligt is not only the Dutchman, but also the defender with the highest transfer earnings. With Juventus he had become champion, cup and super cup winner, was in 117 competitive games on the field – just as often as for Ajax Amsterdam before. In addition to the top dogs Giorgio Chiellini (37; now LAFC) and Leonardo Bonucci (35), he never managed to take on the envisaged role of defense chief. The national player’s uncertainties, which led to goals being conceded in important games such as the Champions League quarter-finals against FC Villarreal, have recently caused his market value to fluctuate.

De Ligt comes from Juventus: Third “One” professional for FC Bayern

At FC Bayern, de Ligt should now take the next step in development. “Matthijs de Ligt was an absolute dream player of ours. With such transfers, the big goals that we are pursuing are possible. The face of our future team is taking shape more and more, and this transfer is an important part of the overall concept that we are implementing step by step. De Ligt should become a mainstay at Bayern Munich,” commented FCB President Herbert Hainer on the commitment.

Interesting: With the Transfer de Ligts, sports director Hasan Salihamidzic has already signed the third player from Agency One of the late advisor Mino Raiola. Ryan Gravenberch (20) and Noussair Mazraoui (24) who came from Ajax are also represented by the Monaco-based company. After Raiola’s death, his long-term business partner Rafaela Pimenta is in charge there. The Brazilian lawyer agreed the final details with the Juve management in Turin on Monday.
