The FC Bayern Munich basketball players suffered the biggest defeat in their nine-year Euroleague history: the Bundesliga basketball team lost out to FC Barcelona 59:98 (27:43).
After the first quarter, Bayern were behind by 16 points, and in the end the difference was a whopping 39 points. After four match days in the European Cup, head coach Pablo Laso’s team has a balanced record of 2-2 wins.
The Bavarians experienced a classic false start against the Catalans: offensively they only scored from the field for the first time after four minutes, defensively they couldn’t get Barcelona playmaker Nicolas Laprovittola under control: the result was a 2:13 deficit, and they were ahead at the half-time break Guests trailing by 11:27. The Munich team stabilized in the second half, but were unable to reduce their deficit at the break.
Whether near the basket or from a distance: Barcelona also scored at a high percentage after halftime. The Spanish top team extended their lead to over 30 points for the first time in the 28th minute of the game. For Bayern, only former NBA player Serge Ibaka (13 points) scored in double figures.
Munich’s heaviest Euroleague defeat to date was on November 1, 2019, when Bayern were defeated by 33 points in Vitoria-Gasteiz.
