FC Bayern has had a few turbulent weeks. The new sports director, Max Eberl, should bring calm and clarity.
FC Bayern has a new sports director. Max Eberl, most recently at Rasenballsport Leipzig, succeeds Hasan Salihamidžić at the German record champions, who had to leave last summer. This Tuesday, Eberl will introduce himself at a press conference in Munich.
11:39 a.m. – Eberl says about his break when asked by t-online: “I reflected on the time I experienced and paused in this fast-paced world. That did me extremely good. 11:38 a.m. – Transfers are “about the matter”. The players would like to be shown a perspective that is the same everywhere. “There’s more to it than the clumsy name,” says Eberl.
11:34 a.m. – Regarding the relationship with Christoph Freund, he says: “We will approach the issues on an equal footing. Christoph is an absolute expert, hierarchies don’t play a role in my world. We will both drive the squad forward. We will try to make good suggestions make.” The division of tasks is very simple, as both work success-oriented. “There is no disempowerment at all. (…) It is simply not possible for one person alone to lead such clubs.”

11:28 a.m. – When asked about the transfer philosophy, he says: “The Bayern Munich squad has always been outstanding. This year too it is an exciting squad with perspective and quality. (…) We want the best possible players to come to FC Get Bayern.” Stars should also be found, but also young players with development. Eberl quotes Thomas Tuchel, who said development is not possible at Bayern. Eberl disagrees: “I do believe that it is possible. It must be possible to lead Bayern Munich successfully and still shape development.”

11:23 a.m. – According to Eberl, the first contact was made in November. “When the question arose in December as to whether I could imagine doing it, it was clear to me after a relatively short period of time that I would do it if they wanted me,” said the 50-year-old.
11:21 a.m. – About the profile of the upcoming Bayern coach, he says: “We want to find a coach who fits the requirements and the idea of what the squad can look like. Is it young players like Tel and Musiala that we Have to give operational time? (…)” The trainer should speak a language such as German or English.
11:20 a.m. – Eberl reveals that he has been thinking a lot about FC Bayern in the past few weeks. He wanted to finish his notepad by summer.
11:18 a.m. – Eberl says about Uli Hoeneß’s role: “I’m an absolute team player who would be stupid if he didn’t use the expertise of the people around me.” In addition to Hoeneß, Eberl also mentions Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. “I am grateful for any help I receive to keep this club successful.”
11:16 a.m. – Eberl speaks of great humility in taking on the task: “You dream about it, but now I have a clear mission and a clear challenge.”
11:13 a.m. – Eberl considers the decision to part ways with Thomas Tuchel to be “right and understandable” in order to create clarity. “Now, with the new situation, the cards have been reshuffled.”
11:12 a.m. – Eberl says about the extent of the upheaval in the squad: “I’ll start now, Christoph is already half a year ahead. I’ll now discuss all the information with you. The very first thing is that we find the right coach! “
11:11 a.m. – Eberl: “We have to find the right coach and the right players for Bayern Munich. Preferably as quickly as possible.” There are candidates who are free and others who are still under contract.
