Ex-Leipzig currently set
Marcel Sabitzer seems to be establishing himself at Bayern in his second season. The bosses also register the good performance of the 28-year-old midfielder with the record champions with benevolence. Sabitzer could even ensure that the commitment of his compatriot Konrad Laimer (25) from RB Leipzig, desired by coach Julian Nagelsmann, becomes superfluous, at least in the current transfer phase. “Marcel is performing solidly at the moment. You can only congratulate him on that,” said Bayern boss Oliver Kahn after the 2-0 win over VfL Wolfsburg.
Sabitzer, who came from Leipzig a year ago for 15 million euros, was again in the Munich starting line-up. “At Bayern, it’s always quick to write off players after a season,” said ex-goalkeeper Kahn. “I’m the best example myself. It took me a season or two here at Bayern Munich to settle down here.” The 53-year-old switched from his home club Karlsruher SC to FCB in 1994 for €2.3m , where he stayed until the end of his career in 2008.
Season 2022/23: These are the top earners at FC Bayern
Kahn answered indirectly whether Sabitzer’s leap in performance could have an impact on Laimer’s personnel: “As far as transfers are concerned, we’re by and large through.” Munich have signed Matthijs de Ligt, Sadio Mané, Mathys Tel, Ryan Gravenberch and Noussair Mazraoui can set an exclamation mark on the transfer market for a total of 137.5 million euros. After this season, the contract of the traded Laimer in Leipzig expires, he could change in 2023 free of charge.
Salihamidzic recognized bad luck at Sabitzer – FC Bayern with many midfield options
Bayern’s sports director Hasan Salihamidzic is also pleased that Sabitzer is currently meeting the expectations placed in him. “He was also unlucky last year due to the late change and injuries. This year he had good preparation. I’m very happy for him that he started the season like this,” said Salihamidzic. Sabitzer, who was only involved in two goals in 32 games over 1,076 minutes last season, is currently also benefiting from the fact that national player Leon Goretzka (27) is injured. “We have a lot of options in midfield,” said Salihamidzic with satisfaction.
