Max Eberl is to become the new sports director at FC Bayern. The people of Munich are probably spending a lot on personnel. The club has reached an agreement with Leipzig.
The signs of change are becoming increasingly clear: Max Eberl is set to succeed Hasan Salihamidžić, who was fired at the end of last season, as sports director at FC Bayern. The long-time Gladbach manager is still under contract with his previous employer RB Leipzig. He was released there at the end of September 2023.
The reason for Eberl’s exit: He always lacked a clear commitment to Leipzig. There have been rumors of a move to FC Bayern for a long time. Eberl never clearly rejected them.
Meanwhile, he was always in high regard with Bavaria’s honorary president Uli Hoeneß. He said last year that “for the next six to twelve months we will have the staffing that the future should have.” After Christoph Freund was hired as sports director, Eberl would probably be the final piece of the puzzle for the management team of the German record champions.
Millions in transfer for Eberl: Nagelsmann game canceled
Now the 50-year-old actually seems to be heading to Munich soon. “Bild” reports that RB Leipzig and FC Bayern have reached an agreement regarding the release of Eberl. Accordingly, the second place in the table would have to pay 3.5 million euros in transfer fee for the new sports director.
In total, the Saxons should receive 4.5 million euros. Because: When ex-coach Julian Nagelsmann moved from Leipzig to Munich in 2021, both clubs agreed on a transfer. This has now been canceled due to the negotiations surrounding Eberl. According to the “Bild” report, the proceeds would have gone to Leipzig. That’s why FC Bayern is paying an additional six-figure sum to compensate for the whole thing. Eberl should also forego salary and bonus payments to which he is entitled.
