The Catalan online newspaper “El Nacional” reported in January that FC Bayern was considering signing Grimaldo. There was already talk of negotiations and a possible transfer fee of over 45 million euros.
Grimaldo moved from SL Benfica to Bayer Leverkusen on a free transfer before the season. The Spaniard is one of the top performers for the Rhinelanders and has played a large part in why the Werkself are currently at the top of the Bundesliga with an eight-point lead.
