FC Bayern: Oliver Kahn convinced of championship title – praise for Uli Hoeneß

Bayern boss believes in championship

Despite the current sporting crisis at FC Bayern Munich, Oliver Kahn is still convinced of winning the championship title again. “Of course we want to be German champions again this year – and we will still make it. There have always been difficult situations in the past, from which FC Bayern has always freed itself and emerged stronger,” said the CEO in an interview with the media group “Münchner Merkur/tz”.

The decisive factor is that the management never let themselves be disturbed. “And that will be the case this time, too,” announced Kahn five games before the end of the season. Because of the performance, the 53-year-old and sports director Hasan Salihamidzic is currently under public criticism. “I can handle criticism as long as it doesn’t become personal,” Kahn explained.

Kahn praises Hoeneß’ performance during Bayern Munich training: “Strong gesture”

Kahn welcomed the surprising appearance of Honorary President Uli Hoeneß during training for the troubled record champion. “It was a strong gesture from Uli to show his fist on the training ground. A clear gesture: We’ll show everyone,” said Kahn. Hoeneß showed up on the club grounds on Wednesday and talked to coach Thomas Tuchel. Even an experienced coach like Tuchel, who had succeeded Julian Nagelsmann on leave, could not change everything overnight, explained Kahn.

The former goalkeeper emphasized that he works with club president Herbert Hainer and the supervisory board “in a spirit of trust and collegial – and that also applies to my cooperation with Uli Hoeneß”. The 71-year-old is still considered to be very influential at Bayern Munich, who after losing the Champions League and DFB Cup are now also worried about the end of their Bundesliga title streak.
