sign of farewell
The signs are still pointing to Dortmund’s central defender Manuel Akanji: As the “Ruhr Nachrichten” reports, BVB will not improve its offer to extend the contract again – the limit for the club is therefore eight million euros per year. The “WAZ” had previously reported an offer between 7 and 9.5 million euros. While the 26-year-old is said to have received a significantly higher offer from Manchester United, according to Transfermarkt information, FC Bayern is also closely monitoring the Swiss contract situation.

Akanji’s contract with the Westphalians expires in 2023. In order for Dortmund to be able to receive a transfer fee in the event of a change, they would have to let their currently most valuable central defender go in the summer, the transfer fee should be at least 30 million euros. As the “Kicker” reports, BVB is no longer assuming that there will be an extension. Despite the already bagged transfer of national player Niklas Süle, the ranks in the defense of the black and yellow could thin out further if Akanji left.

Akanji’s departure would tear a gap in BVB’s defense
Hummels’ contract also ends in 2023, that of Dan-Axel Zagadou (22) even in four months. In addition, loan player Marin Pongracic (24) is expected to leave the club. In addition to Süle and Hummels, coach Marco Rose would only have two central defenders and young talent Soumaïla Coulibaly (17) available for the coming season. Freiburg’s Nico Schlotterbeck is considered a possible candidate to strengthen the defensive center in the summer.
Source! #Bavaria are watching Manuel Akanji’s contract situation at #BVB. The Swiss center-back has thus far refused to renew his contract that expires in 2023. BVB might have to sell the 26-year-old to prevent a free transfer to the FCB if he doesn’t renew. @Transfermarkt

According to Transfermarkt information, Akanji’s situation, who has made 150 appearances (three goals/two assists) for BVB in four years, is also being closely monitored at FC Bayern Munich. After Süle’s departure, the record champions are now starting the new season with the three regular central defenders Dayot Upamecano, Lucas Hernández and Tanguy Nianzou. Full-backs Benjamin Pavard and Josip Stanisic can act as backups.
From Rummenigge to Süle: The 13 transfers between BVB and FC Bayern
A possible free transfer from Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen seems to have collapsed, the Dane is about to sign with FC Barcelona. National player Matthias Ginter, who is also free, does not seem to be the preferred solution on Säbener Straße at the moment. It remains questionable whether an Akanji transfer for the record champions would be conceivable in the summer: sports director Hasan Salihamidzic should have the requirement to ideally compensate for free transfers such as Süle’s only with free transfers.
