Dayot Upamecano, an FC Bayern player, suffered a serious injury on Wednesday. Now it is clear: Konrad Laimer will also be out for weeks.
FC Bayern will have to do without Konrad Laimer for a long time. As the TV channel Sky reported on Thursday, the Austrian will probably be out until March. He would therefore be missing for up to six weeks. The reason for this was a torn muscle fiber in the calf, which also affected the tendon.
“Bild” also reports on the long absence of the summer newcomer. The paper even assumes that FC Bayern will have to do without Laimer for up to eight weeks. This means that a return to the pitch would probably only be an issue in the second half of March.
Will Bayern bring in a replacement? Trippier isn’t coming
Laimer’s loss could also have an impact on Munich’s transfer plans. It is certain that the German record champions actually want to bring in a new right-back. The club has looked into Kieran Trippier from Newcastle United and has reportedly also made offers. But the deal didn’t go through.
Sports director Christoph Freund also confirmed the end of Trippier’s commitment during Bayern’s catch-up game against Union Berlin on Wednesday evening. “It’s over, yes. We only do something where we’re 100 percent convinced that it’s right for the player, for us and also for the transferring club. And that wasn’t the case,” said the 46-year-old on Sky microphone.
Hope with Mukiele
Another alternative that the Munich team should consider is ex-Leipzig player Nordi Mukiele, who is under contract with Paris Saint-Germain. After Freund’s statements about Trippier, Sky presenter Michael Leopold asked whether Bayern still had any hope of signing the Frenchman. Freund’s short answer: “Yes.”
Laimer’s injury now increases the pressure on Mukiele’s personnel. It is quite possible that Bayern will intensify their courtship of the 26-year-old again. Or look for another option at right-back.
