Choupo-Moting before saying goodbye
Manuel Neuer could apparently return to goal at FC Bayern Munich next weekend. As the “Kicker” reports, the doctors and coaching team are expected to give the team the go-ahead to play in the away game on Saturday (6:30 p.m./Sky) at FSV Mainz 05.
Ultimately, Neuer will be able to decide entirely on his own when the 37-year-old will be back on the field for the German record champions for the first time after a month-long injury break. The Munich team will be guests in Mainz on October 21st, and three days later the Champions League will continue at Galatasaray. The next home game is against Darmstadt 98 on October 28th.
The TV station “Sky” had already reported that Neuer wanted to be back in goal against Darmstadt at the latest and then directly in the starting line-up. National goalkeeper Neuer has not played for the club since he broke his leg in December. “There’s no pressure, but things are looking really good there too,” said sports director Christoph Freund recently, when asked about the veteran’s comeback after the international break.
FC Bayern’s top earners: Three times over 20 million per season
Neuer is one of five seasoned professionals with an expiring contract with Munich. According to the magazine, discussions about continuing the collaboration are firmly planned, although there is no rush for this. The keeper has the confidence to have more years at the highest level and FC Bayern has enormous appreciation for him. There should also be timely discussions with deputy Sven Ulreich (35) and homegrown Thomas Müller (34). If the professionals accept their role, new contracts for another year await, just as in the case of Neuer – just as the record champions usually do with players over the age of 30.
FC Bayern: Bouna Sarr and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting before farewell
Right-back Bouna Sarr (31) will leave the club when his four-year contract expires in the summer. The former 8 million purchase, which dates back to the era of sports director Hasan Salihamidzic, still has no prospects at FCB. Attacker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting could also part ways. The 34-year-old’s sporting significance is now manageable. The fact that the Hamburg native’s contract was extended by those responsible at the time in March 2023 with double salary is described as a hasty act. It cannot be ruled out that Choupo-Moting could leave Bayern for a low fee in the winter.
