Manuel Neuer is making his comeback for FC Bayern. The goalkeeper will probably be available again for the German record champions against 1. FSV Mainz 05.
The “kicker” had already reported on Monday that Neuer was just waiting for the go-ahead from his doctors and his coaching team. The 37-year-old has now received the green light to return to the pitch.
Accordingly, both the responsible doctors and goalkeeping coach Michaelrechner have approved Neuer’s deployment.
However, it is not yet certain whether coach Thomas Tuchel will use Neuer in the away game on Saturday (6:30 p.m./Sky) in Mainz. According to the trade magazine, the decision should be made at short notice and in consultation between the two.
Neuer only in FC Bayern’s starting line-up against Darmstadt?
The Munich team will be guests in Mainz on October 21st, and three days later the Champions League will continue at Galatasaray Istanbul. The next home game is against Darmstadt 98 on October 28th.
The TV station “Sky” had already reported that Neuer wanted to be back in goal against Darmstadt at the latest and then directly in the starting line-up.
Since December 2022, Neuer has been condemned to watch; shortly after the Winter World Cup in Qatar, he broke his lower leg while ski touring.
In the meantime, the goalkeeper was set back by complications during his recovery, but he is now part of the team training again at Säbener Straße.
However, Neuer recently suffered a setback with the German national soccer team. The veteran was stripped of his captaincy in his absence.
National coach Julian Nagelsmann already stated before the recent international matches against the USA (3:1) and Mexico (2:2) that Gündogan would wear the armband until at least the home European Championship in 2024. Neuer has officially held the office since 2016.
