FC Bayern: national coach Nagelsmann? Goretzka makes you sit up and take notice

Leon Goretzka was recently ignored by the fired national coach Hansi Flick. If Julian Nagelsmann takes over the position with the German national soccer team, the FC Bayern star would welcome it.

“I think Julian is a great coach. If he ends up being that, we have a great coach,” said Goretzka after the 2-2 draw in the Bundesliga against Bayer Leverkusen.

After Hansi Flick was released, the DFB is currently looking for a new national coach. The future trainer should preferably be presented before the upcoming international break in October.

Goretzka regrets Flick-Aus

Nagelsmann, who was relieved of his duties at Bayern in March but is under contract until 2026, is considered a promising candidate at the DFB. According to information from RTL/ntv and sport.de, sports director Rudi Völler has now contacted his advisor Volker Struth.

The DFB parted ways with Hansi Flick last Sunday after a 1:4 loss against Japan. Goretzka had not previously been named to the squad. But he doesn’t hold any grudge against his ex-coach.

“A coach’s dismissal is always a sign that you haven’t done your job well. So I was sad and annoyed that it had come to this,” emphasized the midfielder and added: “We had a successful time with Hansi. I “I would have liked it to work better.”

Goretzka was placed at FC Bayern under Nagelsmann. After his departure from the German record champions in March, the ex-Schalke player published an emotional post and wrote of “a shock” and a “very good relationship” with Nagelsmann.

“You are a great person and trainer to whom we all wish the very best from the bottom of our hearts,” wrote Goretzka, adding that the collaboration was “characterized at all times by trust, fun and mutual appreciation.”
