Munich (AP) – Julian Nagelsmann attaches great importance to the home game of FC Bayern Munich against FC Augsburg after the Champions League defeat at FC Villarreal.
The 34-year-old coach didn’t even look at the table and maintaining the nine-point lead over Dortmund in the Bundesliga. It’s more about our own claim, especially after the 0-1 draw in Villarreal and the quarter-final second leg on April 12, in which Bayern have to catch up from a 0-1 draw.
“We no longer have a large tolerance limit for wobbles and slip-ups,” said Nagelsmann, looking at negative experiences such as the 0-5 cup defeat against Gladbach: “If we get through against Villarreal, we’ll still be in a very good season.”
Nagelsmann will make some changes against Augsburg on Saturday (3.30 p.m.) compared to the lost premier class game. Niklas Süle will start in defence, Leon Goretzka is new in midfield. Full-back Alphonso Davies, on the other hand, is rested after his 90-minute comeback in Villarreal. “It’s an important game,” said Nagelsmann. Augsburg is “good in the flow”, the Allianz Arena is also fully occupied again for the first time.
Internally, Villarreal’s mistake has been worked up intensively. Talks were “more detailed after defeats than after victories,” said Nagelsmann. In one-to-one conversations with players, he listened to many opinions. “Nobody has reached their peak performance, so I’m involved,” said the Bayern coach.
