The search for a “Holding Six” continues at FC Bayern. The record champions are likely to launch a new attack on the transfer market next summer at the latest. A candidate is now apparently no longer on the wish list of the second-placed team in the Bundesliga.
Kalvin Phillips was traded from Manchester City to FC Bayern in the summer. The Englishman moved from Leeds United to Manchester City in the summer of 2022 for around 50 million euros. However, the 2021 European runner-up usually only plays a supporting role in Pep Guardiola’s star ensemble.
Therefore, according to the Daily Mail, the English champions have already given the six-man team the go-ahead for a winter move. In addition to a sale, a loan should also be possible, according to the report in the English daily newspaper. The 28-year-old will probably not move to Munich.
FC Bayern: Transfer of Kalvin Phillips not an issue
In the “Bayern Insider” podcast, “Bild” reporter Christian Falk revealed that FC Bayern had looked into Phillips but had now refrained from making a transfer. It goes on to say that the central midfielder does not fit the profile that the German record champions are looking for.
The Sky Blues’ asking price is also too high for the Bundesliga club, says Falk. Rumors that FC Bayern had already held initial discussions with the midfielder were relegated to the realm of fables by “Bild” several weeks ago. According to the tabloid, Martín Zubimendi from Real Sociedad from San Sebastián is said to have become the focus of the Munich team instead.
Apparently he is the “top favorite” for the clearing position in front of the defense. In Spain, the national player still has a contract until 2027, but this should contain an exit clause. Zubimendi will reportedly be allowed to leave the Basques early next summer for around 60 million euros.
