Ex-Liverpooler ‘likes this club a lot’

After sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic confirmed the transfer of Sadio Mané to FC Bayern on Saturday, the deal is now officially dry. Munich announced the commitment of the 30-year-old offensive player from Liverpool on Wednesday as a result of the mandatory medical check-up. The Senegalese has been given a contract at Säbener Straße until June 30, 2025.

According to “Bild” and “Sport1”, the fixed fee for Mané, whose working paper would have expired with the Reds next year, is 32 million euros, which can be supplemented by 9 million euros in bonuses – Bayern never paid for a player beyond that the 30 more. In the course of the transfer poker, Munich is said to have reduced the transfer fee from originally almost 50 million euros.

With the transfer of Mané, Bayern, like in 2019 and 2020, when Lucas Hernández and Leroy Sané were signed, made an exception in the German football upper house, which is more known in Europe as a training league. It is a rarity that Munich managed to free the best player next to Mohamed Salah (30) from the Champions League finalist. The annual salary of rumored 20 million euros probably also helped.

FC Bayern brings Sadio Mané: 168 goals in six years at Liverpool FC

“With Sadio Mané, a top international star is coming to Bayern Munich who has made his mark on world football. We are proud to have brought him to Munich. In our conversations, Sadio made it clear from the first minute that he only wanted to play for Bayern. Everyone knows his outstanding qualities, playful as well as his incredible mentality. He will give a lot to our team with their super structure and support them. The fact that he comes to Bayern Munich shows that he and our club have big goals. Sadio Mané fits perfectly with the football that FC Bayern plays under Julian Nagelsmann,” said Salihamidzic about the newcomer, who has become the world’s most valuable summer transfer in 2022 behind ManCity’s Erling Haaland purchase (to the statistics).

Mané is leaving Liverpool after six years and 269 games in which he had 168 goals. He himself added: “I’m very happy to finally be with FC Bayern in Munich. We had a lot of talks and I felt the great interest of this big club from the start. So there was no doubt in my mind right from the start: This is the right time for this challenge. I want to achieve a lot with this club, also internationally. Even during my time in Salzburg, I followed a lot of FC Bayern games – I like this club a lot!”
