FC Bayern loses anniversary game

Four days after their cup victory, the FC Bayern basketball team experienced a disappointment in coach Andrea Trinchieri’s anniversary game.

In the Italian’s 200th EuroLeague appearance, the Munich team lost to Israel Maccabi Tel Aviv 82-90 (44-39) after problems in the final quarter.

In the first game after the Top Four tournament in the Bundesliga (BBL), which Munich won by beating hosts EWE Baskets Oldenburg in the final, captain Vladimir Lucic was absent due to thigh problems. Augustine Rubit (Achilles tendon surgery) and Elias Harris (foot) were also unable to take part.

Despite the personnel problems, Bayern had the game in the Menora Mivtachim Arena under control for a long time. A run at the beginning of the second half even gave them a double-digit lead (50:39/22nd minute). But Maccabi around the Spanish European champion Lorenzo Brown (27 points) fought back, was able to improve in the final phase and made the home win clear.

With nine wins and 16 defeats, Bayern, who had their best pitcher in Corey Walden (19), are still in the bottom third of the table.
