The transfer theater around Robert Lewandowski is officially over. The attacker leaves FC Bayern after eight years and joins FC Barcelona. Both clubs confirmed this late Tuesday evening.
As announced by FC Barcelona, FC Bayern will receive a transfer fee of 45 million euros plus bonus payments of up to five million euros for the 33-year-old. The Poland international has been tied with the Catalans for four seasons. Lewandowski was also given a €500m release clause at Barca.
Both clubs announced the move a few days ago. Lewandowski has now completed the medical check and signed his working paper.
“I’m finally here and I’m very happy. The last few days have been very long, but in the end the deal is ticked and I can focus on a new chapter and a new challenge in my life,” said the Pole recently in his first Barca Interview.
With his new team, he not only wants to win games, but also win titles, assured the superstar, who said about the reasons for his move: “I always wanted to play in La Liga for a big club. That’s my next step. Barca is back on track and that’s why I’m here: to help Barcelona get back on top and win as many titles as possible.”
FC Bayern gives way in the transfer theater
Bayern club president Herbert Hainer described Lewandowski as an “incredibly deserved player” in an interview with “BR”. “However, we also gave him a team that enabled him to win these titles,” emphasized the 68-year-old.
In the past few months, Lewandowski had repeatedly publicly emphasized his desire to change. FC Bayern initially put in their transfer veto, only to finally give in. The attacker switched from Borussia Dortmund to Bayern Munich on a free transfer in 2014.
