FC Bayern legend Hitzfeld becomes a Bielefeld fan

Successful coach Ottmar Hitzfeld becomes a fan of Arminia Bielefeld for the rest of the Bundesliga season. Reason: Hitzfeld’s longtime assistant Michael Henke has recently become an assistant coach with the East Westphalians.

“Because I know Michael so well, I will now follow Bielefeld’s games with interest. I’ll definitely keep my fingers crossed for Bielefeld and Michael for the rest of the season and in the relegation battle,” said the 73-year-old to “Bild”.

Hitzfeld and Henke had won a total of seven championship titles and two Champions Leagues with Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich. Henke knows “how a team works, knows the inner workings of a team. He will help Bielefeld and can make an important social and professional contribution to the team structure there,” said Hitzfeld.

Arminia parted ways with coach Frank Kramer on Wednesday, who will be replaced by the previous goalkeeper coach Marco Kostmann and Henke until the end of the season. With four games to go, Bielefeld is 17th in the table.
