Nagelsmann without panic before Salzburg
Joshua Kimmich seemed more upset than he had in a long time after the clear defeat at VfL Bochum. Visibly annoyed, the national player spoke plainly after the 2: 4 (1: 4) of the previously sovereign table leader from Munich. “We missed all the virtues and have to ask ourselves whether that’s the mentality that FC Bayern normally embodies,” Kimmich complained. Shaking his head, the midfielder recalled the end of October at Borussia Mönchengladbach on “Sky”: “It’s not the first time this has happened to us. I don’t know that from us in the past, that we conceded four or five goals.”
As with the 0:5 in Mönchengladbach, the German record champions were also presented in phases in Bochum. After goals from Christopher Antwi-Adjei (14), Jürgen Locadia (38th penalty), Cristian Gamboa (40th) and Gerrit Holtmann (44th), he was already 1:4 behind at half-time. Munich had not conceded four goals before the break for a long time. The last time they conceded more than three goals in the first 45 minutes was on November 22, 1975. We had a plan that didn’t work out. I should have ruled sooner.”
A similar performance on Wednesday in Salzburg should also shake Bayern in the first leg of the Champions League. “I’m not worried,” commented Nagelsmann, full of hope that his team would draw the right conclusions from the defeat. But in the end the coach couldn’t resist criticism of his pros: “It was a shitty game. We shouldn’t lose tension just to make things more exciting in the Bundesliga. That was an overall package in the first half that just doesn’t work.”
