2: 4 at VfL Bochum: FC Bayern make a fool of themselves with the promoted team. After the game, Joshua Kimmich turns himself in – and launches a sweeping attack on live TV. Coach Nagelsmann also makes a clear statement.
Nobody expected that at Bayern: The 2: 4 swatter at promoted VfL Bochum caught the German record champions cold. After the game at Revierklub, midfielder Joshua Kimmich was the first from the Munich team to appear on live TV – and spoke plainly: “We had our worst performance of the season over the entire season,” said the national player on “Sky”.
Then Kimmich really got going – and tackled the whole team hard: “We missed all the virtues that were needed to win the game. If something like that happens once in the season, then I say: It can But that’s not the first time it’s happened to us, it happened to us in Gladbach (5-0 in the DFB Cup, editor’s note). So we have to be careful.”
“Everyone has to question themselves”
Apparently, Munich’s appearance really frightened Kimmich: “With such an attitude, with such body language – I could of course list a few virtues here that we were missing here … that doesn’t have much to do with a plan or with to do with any tactics, but with the way you approach a game like this.” This is not worthy of the club. You have to “also ask yourself whether that’s the mentality that FC Bayern actually embodies.”
Coach Julian Nagelsmann defended Kimmich, it was more the players, the 26-year-old confirmed: “There were no tactical reasons for that today. We even took a 1-0 lead and then got four goals within 20, 25 minutes. Every individual has to question whether he hit everything today.”
The appearances this season are atypical: “It really happens to us too often, and I don’t know that from the past so extremely from us that we always have games in it where we concede four or five goals, and we can do that doesn’t happen at this level.” On Wednesday, FC Bayern meets FC Salzburg in the round of 16 first leg of the Champions League, where a significant improvement in performance will be necessary.
Nagelsmann: “We trained badly”
Nagelsmann also admitted this, who was self-critical after the Bochum game and, as Kimmich became clear: “Normally I have to change earlier” Nagelsmann confessed to “Sky”. “We played very, very slowly in the 1st half, very, very sluggish. We were a bit too defensive in terms of personnel. In the end it was a bit better in the 2nd half but we should have scored earlier to something else to get.”
The preparation wasn’t optimal: “We trained very badly yesterday, and although we’re obviously a top team, we still can’t manage to flip the switch.” Nagelsmann repeated himself: “Yesterday we just didn’t train well, we didn’t have the tension like today in the first half and then just didn’t manage to knock the buck over, to bring the necessary power onto the pitch. Bochum was poisonous – and we were the polar opposite at all stages.”
