FC Bayern is thinning out the luxury squad

FC Bayern Munich is thinning out its luxury squad at the end of the transfer period.

Dutch U21 international Joshua Zirkzee is moving to FC Bologna in Italy’s Serie A, where he has been given a four-year contract.

Bayern, who are set to receive a transfer fee of 8.5 million euros, have a buyback option for the 21-year-old. Zirkzee made 17 Bundesliga appearances in Munich (four goals).

18-year-old talent Gabriel Vidovic has been loaned out to Dutch first division side Vitesse Arnhem for a season. Vidovic has played for FC Bayern since the U15s and has made four appearances for the record champions so far. The attacking player made his debut for Croatia’s U21s last year.

Bayern continue to see “great potential” and a “very interesting player” in Zirkzee, as sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic emphasized. “We will follow his development in Bologna,” he announced. Vidovic also “proved with his good performances in preparation that he is rightly in our professional squad”. In Arnhem, however, he has “greater chances of playing regularly,” said Salihamidzic.
