Last summer, Alexander Nübel returned to FC Bayern after two years on loan in Monaco, but was transferred straight to VfB Stuttgart. The 27-year-old performed so well there that people in Munich are now thinking about extending his contract.
Alexander Nübel has only had to reach behind himself 19 times in the 16 Bundesliga matches so far, and the former Schalke player kept his box clean six times. The FC Bayern loanee also played his part in VfB Stuttgart’s outstanding first half.
There is no question: this transfer has been worth it for all parties so far. Nübel himself has boosted his career again, VfB has secured support and his Munich parent club has seen a significant increase in market value for a professional who has already been labeled a flop.
According to “Sport Bild” information, those responsible at Bayern are now even thinking about extending Nübel’s working paper, which expires in 2025, again – even though the goalkeeper has hardly left any traces there since his free transfer to Säbener Straße in 2020.
FC Bayern could park Nübel in Stuttgart for longer
According to reports, the FCB management’s idea is that Nübel could play another season for VfB in the event of an extension. A permanent purchase of the Paderborn native might be too expensive for the Stuttgart team.
A decision on the future of the former German U21 national goalkeeper is supposed to be made in February or March.
It is unclear whether there are also mental games in Munich about giving Nübel a new chance to prove himself. The record champions want to continue with the proven duo Manuel Neuer/Sven Ulreich at least until the end of the 2024/2025 season.
After that, however, there could be a need for the goalkeeper position – and Nübel could become an issue again.
