Contract expired in Belgrade
In its search for new talent, FC Bayern has apparently kept an eye on Serbian Matija Popovic. Like, among other things, “Sky” and Gianluca di Marzio reports, the Munich team has entered the race for the 18-year-old midfield youngster. Accordingly, an offer has already been submitted to the players’ side, and since his contract with Partizan Belgrade ended at the beginning of the year, Popovic has been without a club and therefore on the market for a free transfer.

Di Marzio also brings FC Porto, Inter and AC Milan into play. Popovic’s move to the Rossoneri is said to have already been imminent, and the teenager was already in the city before negotiations stalled. A direct loan to Frosinone was negotiated at Milan. The newcomer is now aiming for a similar model with Napoli, as CEO Guido Angelozzi confirmed to “Sky Sport”: “We are trying to sign Matija Popovic as a free transfer player. We will try to work with a top club (Napoli) on this deal. It’s not easy, but we try and hope it works.”
Popovic particularly attracted attention at the U17 European Championship last summer, where he recorded three assists for Serbia against the Italian and Spanish youth teams.
