FC Bayern loses in Bochum for the third time in a row. A scene shortly before the final whistle caused a stir. The protagonist was once again Leroy Sané.
The defeat at VfL Bochum (2:3) represents a new low for FC Bayern. The Munich team have lost their last three competitive games. The league has conceded a whopping six goals in the last two games. League leaders Leverkusen are eight points ahead of the record champions. There is a threat of a titleless season.
Bayern star Leon Goretzka struggled for words after the final whistle and spoke of a “horror film that somehow doesn’t stop.” But he also praised the team’s attitude: “I think we tried everything in the end,” said the 29-year-old about Bayern, who ultimately played outnumbered after Upamecano was sent off. “You can’t really blame us, with one man less.”
Sané lacks the willingness to run
Given these statements, it is doubtful whether Goretzka still remembered a scene from injury time. Because there was a situation in which one could easily accuse a Bayern player of lacking motivation.
During a VfL attack, Bochum’s Stöger played the ball past Leroy Sané and thus to teammate Kwarteng. He then sprinted down the sideline to receive a possible return pass. Sané again just turned around listlessly, just trotted along at a snail’s pace and didn’t help defend. This created a good chance for Bochum to finish.
Online users commented scornfully on the scene. “How Sané just stops,” wrote one user on the X platform. Another commented on Sané’s lack of willingness to run: “He wasn’t flat, he just didn’t feel like it…”.
The fact is: While Bochum’s Stöger played for the full game time, Sané, who was slightly injured, was only substituted on after more than an hour. This probably caused anger online about his behavior in the situation in question.
