Convincing against BVB
The new Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel has promised national player Leroy Sané his full support after the top game against Borussia Dortmund, but also sees the Munich attacker at an important point in his career. “He’s simply at an age where the course is now set mercilessly,” said Tuchel after the record champions’ 4: 2, in which the 27-year-old Sané was once again able to prove his great abilities.
The playing times of the 50-time national player, whose nomination the national coach Hansi Flick waived as part of the international matches in March, had recently increased again. In the last three Bundesliga games, Sané was in the starting XI, played through and contributed to three goals. Against BVB, Sané was directly involved in the goals that made Thomas Müller 3-0 and Kingsley Coman 4-0. “It’s mainly up to him to make full use of it,” said Tuchel about the offensive player’s ability and added: “We will support him in this.” Overall, the Schalke home-grown player has scored 13 goals and eight assists in 33 competitive games in all competitions this season .

Sané switched from Manchester City to Bayern in the summer of 2020 for a fee of 49 million euros, and his market value at the time of 80 million euros has since fallen by 10 million euros. In his first week as Bayern coach, Tuchel noticed that Sané is always a big topic in the media in Munich. “I’m amazed because a lot is about Leroy. I’d like to defend him a bit because I don’t think it’s appropriate that we talk about Leroy in every press conference. What did Leroy do, was it good, was it bad,” said the 49-year-old. The coach summed up the attacking player’s performance against BVB as follows: “Leroy had good and bad things with the team, a lot of good moves that we can build on. He also started very nervously with two or three technical errors. There is room for improvement for everyone, and that applies to him as well.”

Tuchel announcement to Bayern pros: bring everyone to the maximum performance
In the past, Sané had already been attested to a lack of attitude due to his body language at Man City as well as in Munich. During his first week of training at Säbener Straße, Tuchel had already made it clear what he expected from his team in the future, but also from professionals in general:
“It is fundamentally the desire to bring everyone to their maximum performance. In the end it is always the player himself who has to have the drive. Signing for FC Bayern requires mental strength and exceptional sportsmanship. The player has to go to the limit every day. It’s always about how I use the day, how I use the training session to push myself to the limit. Everyone was at the start this week, everyone wanted to show themselves. We also want to use this to take advantage of the tailwind in the coming weeks.”
