Leipzig and Freiburg benefit
Next nightmare for FC Bayern Munich at feared opponent Borussia Mönchengladbach: Due to the turbulent 2: 3 (1: 1) on Saturday after more than 80 minutes outnumbered, FC Bayern is now threatened with falling from the top of the table on Sunday if Union Berlin against at home Bottom FC Schalke 04 wins. In addition, Borussia Dortmund could catch up with a home win against the penultimate Hertha BSC.
RB Leipzig and SC Freiburg have already benefited from the record champion’s slip in the title fight. Freiburg reduced the gap to the leaders of the table to three points with a 2-0 (1-0) win at VfL Bochum, who are otherwise strong at home. With the 3-0 (1-0) win at VfL Wolfsburg, Leipzig moved up to four points behind Bayern. In the relegation battle, VfB Stuttgart managed to liberate themselves by beating 1. FC Köln 3-0 (1-0) and the first win under new coach Bruno Labbadia.
Before the kick-off in Gladbach, Yann Sommer was officially bid farewell by his former club. In the game, the Bayern goalkeeper had to reach behind him early on when Lars Stindl (13′) scored. At this point, Munich were already playing with a man fewer because Upamecano had seen the red card (8th) after an emergency brake against Alassane Plea. This also had a bitter effect on Thomas Müller, who drew level with goalkeeper icon Oliver Kahn in his 429th Bundesliga game for FC Bayern, but had to leave after 15 minutes for tactical reasons.

Bayern equalized outnumbered by Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (35′), but national player Jonas Hofmann (55′), who was directly involved in all Gladbach goals, and Marcus Thuram (84′) ensured Gladbach’s victory. Mathys Tel (90+3) only managed to get the goal back for FC Bayern, who failed to win against Gladbach for the fifth time in a row.
Emil Forsberg (14th) gave Leipzig, who were superior in Wolfsburg, a 1-0 lead early on. In the second half, top French striker Christopher Nkunku made a comeback after almost 100 days out through injury. Nkunku prepared the 2-0 through Konrad Laimer (85th). Dominik Szoboszlai (90th) scored the final score.
VfB Stuttgart also got off to a good start with a goal from Gil Dias (9th). Borna Sosa (59th) and Tanguy Coulibaly (74th) made the final score. In Bochum attacker Michael Gregoritsch (39th) with his eighth goal of the season and Lucas Höler (51st) secured three points for the extremely efficient Freiburg team. At VfL, who had won the previous five league home games, captain Anthony Losilla received a red card for a serious foul (63rd).
