FC Bayern faces this penalty after the tennis ball attack

FC Bayern is threatened with a penalty from the DFB after the tennis ball protest by its fans in the DFB Cup at Preußen Münster.

According to “Sport1”, this is 350 euros per felt ball thrown – 185 balls flew onto the lawn of Münster’s Prussian Stadium, so the record cup winner has to shell out 65,000 euros.

The Munich supporters protested against the scheduling of the DFL Supercup on the weekend of the first cup round with the action and a banner they rolled out.

Because FC Bayern had to play against RB Leipzig in mid-August in the less traditional competition, the first round game in Münster in the cup was postponed to the end of September – an unfortunate constellation, even from the outsider’s point of view.

“The fact is that the postponement means we are now playing against a Munich team that is probably better at this point. At the original date, the DFB Cup would have been FC Bayern’s first competitive game of the season, while we were already in the 3rd league were in action,” said Münster coach Sascha Hildmann.

FC Bayern fans cause the game to be interrupted for several minutes

The tennis ball protest by FC Bayern fans caused the game against the third division team to be interrupted for several minutes after a good half hour. There had already been further delays around kick-off due to the use of pyrotechnics and fireworks by the home fans.

In terms of sport, the first half of the duel went without any major surprises. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (9th), Konrad Laimer (40th) and Frans Krätzig (45th + 5) gave the weakened favorite from Munich a clear lead.

RB Leipzig’s first round appearance in the DFB Cup is still pending. The Saxons will face SV Wehen Wiesbaden away on Wednesday (8:45 p.m.).
