FC Bayern faces competition for Max Eberl: Liverpool FC is interested

Schmadtke out after the end of the contract?

Shortly before the game against FC Bayern on September 30th, managing director Max Eberl was placed on leave from RB Leipzig. Everything indicated that the 50-year-old would soon be taking on a management position at the German record champions. The move to Säbener Straße is not official yet – and there is apparently competition for the Munich team. According to the “Picture“Liverpool FC is also interested in the former Gladbacher.

It was only in June that the Reds installed Jörg Schmadtke as sports director in order to carry out the squad change. The 59-year-old spent a total of 172 million euros on Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister & Co. in the last transfer window, and 60.7 million euros were earned again through player sales. After eight matchdays, coach Jürgen Klopp’s team is fourth in the Premier League with 17 points.

Schmadtke’s contract in Liverpool ends next summer and was planned as a short-term engagement with the prospect of a longer collaboration. Regardless of sporting success, Eberl could make the prospect of staying less likely, although a transfer fee would be due for him due to his contract with RBL, which runs until June 2026.

According to the report, there was non-binding contact with Billy Hogan, managing director of the 2019 Champions League winner, in May 2022. Eberl is also said to have already exchanged ideas with FC Bayern. “I estimate that for the next six to twelve months we will have the staffing that the future should have,” Honorary President Uli Hoeneß said on Sunday, when asked about Eberl, in the “BR”. RB dissolved the collaboration after less than a year, citing “lack of commitment to the club” as the reason.
