FC Bayern | Exclusive: Transfer offensive in winter? Uli Hoeneß speaks out

The fact that two FC Bayern decision-makers, CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen and President Herbert Hainer, recently announced transfers in the winter fueled the hope of quite a few Munich fans that they would soon be able to welcome more superstars à la Harry Kane to Säbener Straße . However, a word of power from Tegernsee is now echoing through the nation.

A new six, a new central defender, perhaps also an alternative for the defensive and offensive wings: there has been a lot of speculation about possible construction sites at FC Bayern since the start of the season. But too many rumors probably won’t come true, at least in winter. Bavaria’s honorary president Uli Hoeneß reflected on this in an exclusive interview with RTL/ntv and sport.de no doubts arise.

“We will do something if we feel that we need additions by then. But there will definitely not be a major transfer offensive,” the 71-year-old makes it unmistakably clear.

After all, FC Bayern is “a commercial enterprise” and can not only live “in the here and now”, but also wants to “be healthy for the next ten years”. He is proud that he has been able to finance himself from a fixed-term deposit account for 30 years, “and it should stay that way,” emphasizes Hoeneß.

Hoeneß justifies the fact that such great expectations have arisen in some “unwise statements” by coach Thomas Tuchel and Co. These are “a great feast for the media”.

FC Bayern can’t just buy expensive players

Tuchel had publicly called for reinforcements several times and, above all, repeatedly complained about the lack of a real six in the squad. A circumstance that was not always well received by the players – and not by Hoeneß either.

These demands “make your own team look bad,” said Hoeneß, who doesn’t think FC Bayern lacks top-class personnel anyway: “If you see every weekend what we have sitting on the bench – only national players – then we don’t have a thin squad.”

In addition, FC Bayern must “continue to make sure in the future not only to buy expensive players, but also to give the young ones a chance,” emphasizes Hoeneß. In this context, Hoeneß highlights Frans Krätzig, who was given a chance during preparation and convinced.

If there hadn’t been any personnel problems at the time, Hoeneß speculates, “then Frans would never have been used and his career at FC Bayern probably wouldn’t have taken place at all.”

The 20-year-old has already played three competitive games for the professionals in 2023/24 and even scored one goal.
