FC Bayern | Exclusive: This is how 1. FC Saarbrücken celebrated the fairytale in the DFB Cup

1. FC Saarbrücken celebrates the cup sensation against FC Bayern. In an exclusive conversation with RTL/ntv and sport.de, Bone Uaferro revealed how the night went after the second-round coup.

When referee Frank Willenborg blew the whistle for the duel between 1. FC Saarbrücken and FC Bayern, there was no stopping the cheering in the Ludwigsparkstadion. After all, the Saarlanders had just caused one of the biggest surprises in cup history with their late 2-1 win.

The third division team fell behind early on thanks to Bayern’s Thomas Müller’s goal (16th). But Patrick Sontheimer (45+1 minutes) and Marcel Gaus (90+6) shocked the record champions and sent Saarbrücken into ecstasy.

“First of all, a few Malle hits were played in the dressing room,” explained defender Bone Uaferro RTL/ntv and sport.de about the celebrations after the final whistle: “Then we actually drove straight into the city, to a bar and celebrated the sensation for a bit. But we didn’t go overboard, it was just a nice get-together with the fans and boys.”

The huge surprise against FC Bayern turned Saarbrücken into a party hotspot for one night.

“Actually, everything in the old town is closed after midnight. The game was late. But I think two bars opened specifically. The music wasn’t that loud because they weren’t allowed to. The Fans were already in the city and gave us a proper welcome,” said Uaferro, describing the scenes in the Saarland state capital.

The 31-year-old himself was in the starting line-up against FC Bayern and was involved until he was substituted in the 71st minute.

1. FC Saarbrücken wants to take momentum

After the cup sensation is also before everyday life in the league. On Saturday (2 p.m.) 1. FC Saarbrücken continues their game against SV Sandhausen. Bayern-Schreck is currently in 15th place.

“Everyday life in the league is also very, very important,” emphasized Uaferro. The Berlin native hopes that the win against FC Bayern will provide additional impetus.

“We were and have always been a close-knit bunch. The new arrivals always integrate quickly. But an experience like this brings us together again and I hope that we can carry the momentum and euphoria with us into the next games.”

With performances like those against FC Bayern, 1. FC Saarbrücken doesn’t have to hide from any opponents in the 3rd league.
