Without a club since the summer
Former Bundesliga professional Luiz Gustavo is about to return to his Brazilian homeland. The 36-year-old midfielder, who was under contract with Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia until the summer, will apparently sign for São Paulo FC in the coming days. Several media outlets report this unanimously – it is reportedly a contract until December 2024.
For Gustavo it would be the first stop in Brazil since he moved from SC Corinthians Alagoano to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim in 2007. Via FC Bayern, VfL Wolfsburg, Olympique Marseille and Fenerbahce, he landed at the club in the summer of 2022, which brought in Cristiano Ronaldo a short time later. Due to the foreigner regulations, he had to make room for other well-known newcomers in the summer.

Now the move to São Paulo is imminent, where Gustavo would meet a former teammate in Rafinha. Between 2011 and 2013, the two appeared on the field together 37 times for FC Bayern, and in 2014 they made another appearance for the Brazilian national team. James Rodríguez is also under contract with the tenth-placed Série A side.
