“FC Bayern doesn’t want bratwursts”

As is well known, FC Bayern wants to hit the transfer market in winter and eliminate several problem areas in the squad. Long-time Bundesliga manager Michael Reschke gives his former club tips on this matter.

Last deadline day, Bayern’s hoped-for signing of Joao Palhinha failed in the last few meters. The German record champions’ budget for January is all the greater. New additions are planned for at least two positions.

Michael Reschke, who once earned his living on Säbener Straße and now works as a consultant, doesn’t expect the player market to be a piece of cake.

“Any club that has a Bayern dream player under contract is of course aware of Munich’s difficult situation and also of their financial strength. FC Bayern doesn’t want bratwursts, or a supplementary player from a supplementary player, but rather professionals with quality in the knockout phase of the champions League. And this situation drives the transfer fees,” warned the 66-year-old in an interview with “tz”.

FC Bayern is particularly struggling on the defensive, and they need fresh talent for interior and exterior defense in the winter. The search for six isn’t over yet either.

“Bayern are probably currently negotiating with several candidates and they always have to keep an eye on developments at other clubs. This can be extremely tough and annoying to no end,” emphasized Reschke.

FC Bayern squad “sewn on edge”

In recent months, FCB coach Thomas Tuchel has repeatedly complained about the limited personnel alternatives in his squad.

Reschke can understand that: “Munich’s squad size is tailored to very high standards. If two or three key players are unavailable, it becomes extremely problematic and actually hardly solvable.”

The player agent advised those responsible at Bayern, including sports director Christoph Freund and CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen, not to just pay attention to big names.

“Players who help maintain balance and are important for the depth of the squad can also be important,” emphasized Reschke.
