FC Bayern doesn’t give up in poker for Yann Sommer

Despite clear words from Borussia Mönchengladbach’s sporting director Roland Virkus, FC Bayern has apparently not yet given up hope of signing goalkeeper Yann Sommer.

As “Sport1” reports, Virkus’ statement from Saturday in the “Rheinische Post” (“We will not give up Yann Sommer. We have also informed Bayern”) instead marks the beginning of a tough transfer poker game with the German record champions.

Accordingly, FC Bayern has so far only offered a little less than five million euros for Sommer, whose contract in Gladbach expires in the summer.

However, Borussia is hoping for a compensation payment of eight million euros for an early change of the 34-year-old Swiss in January.

Gladbach needs coal for Yann Sommer’s successor

Background: Gladbach would need this sum to sign Jonas Omlin from HSC Montpellier. According to the report, Sommer’s compatriot, who is six years his junior, is the favorite to succeed the veteran in the Fohlenelf.

Also “Picture” wrote on Saturday evening that FC Bayern is still working on summer. The Munich transfer offer is currently four million euros.

The Noch-Gladbach is loud “Sport1” but not the only option on Säbener Straße to compensate for the month-long absence of regular keeper and captain Manuel Neuer (broken leg).

Another goalkeeper option at FC Bayern

A return of Alexander Nübel, who is currently on loan to AS Monaco, is also not off the table, although he had not been publicly enthusiastic about it recently.

There is still contact between Monaco and FC Bayern, and Nübel can also imagine returning to Munich – but only under certain conditions.

The 26-year-old is about personal appreciation, they say. From Nübel’s point of view, the difficult relationship with Bayern’s goalkeeping coach Toni Tapalovic must first be clarified.

In any case, there is still an agreement with Monaco that FC Bayern could only bring about by paying a sum X. Because the club from the French Ligue 1 would also need a new number one in the event of a Nübel departure.
