FC Bayern: Christian Früchtl continues to have Neuer’s successor in mind

FC Bayern has a buyback option

Goalkeeper Christian Früchtl was trained at FC Bayern, but only played nine minutes between the posts for the record champions’ first team. After an unfortunate loan adventure at 1. FC Nürnberg in 2020/21, the 23-year-old has been able to show off his skills in the Austria Vienna jersey since summer 2022. Although Früchtl is under contract with the 24-time Austrian champion until 2025, Bayern reportedly have a buy-back option. That’s probably why he hasn’t given up hope of a breakthrough at his youth club. Should Manuel Neuer (37) quit, Früchtl will still have his successor in mind.

“Of course I want that, it has to be my goal – because if I do it, I would be one of the best goalkeepers in the world. I will give everything to achieve this goal, but it depends on so many factors. I think you can ask any goalkeeper, nobody will say that he wouldn’t be in goal for Bayern,” the keeper told the “Passauer Neue Presse”.

When Bayern discussed and speculated about names in goal in the recent past – especially when it came to replacing the long-term injured Neuer – Früchtl’s personality only played a marginal role. In the second half of the 2022/23 season, FC Bayern relied on Yann Sommer (34), who was signed from Gladbach; Sven Ulreich (35) is currently once again representing the multiple world goalkeeper, who is now on the verge of his comeback.

About a possible return to Bayern last winter, Früchtl said: “Of course you hear about it through the media. But it wasn’t something that necessarily concerned me. Because ultimately it’s about the facts. Is there something concrete on the table or not? And that wasn’t the case. There were a few conversations, but nothing that I had to seriously worry about.”

From Austria Vienna back to FC Bayern? Christian Früchtl wants the next step

Austria probably doesn’t have to worry about the unlikely event that Früchtl leaves the club, because after all, precautions have been taken: Samuel Sahin-Radlinger came from relegated SV Ried in the summer and was tied down long-term, but directly to the Netherlands for this season delivered to Almere City. In the future, the 30-year-old Austrian will replace Früchtl. He, in turn, now explained: “My goal is to finish playing in Vienna this year, to play well in order to take the next step.” He had “clearly agreed” with Austria that they would sit down together if there was a “lucrative situation for both sides “Offer” arrives.

The former German junior national goalkeeper said about his ambitions on Transfermarkt in August 2020: “It is of course my wish and dream to be number one at FC Bayern at some point. But you have to see what Bayern wants. (…) In the end you always have to deliver your performance. You don’t achieve anything by talking.” In Vienna, Früchtl kept a clean sheet 15 times in 59 matches and conceded 93 goals. His market value is currently 1.2 million euros – his career high to date.
