FC Bayern Munich campaigned for equality during its trip to the USA and took a stand against exclusion of any kind.
“We have a responsibility to stimulate discussion about hate and how we can collectively stop it in our sport and ultimately in society,” Bayern President Herbert Hainer said at an event at the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington. This took place as part of the Munich initiative “Red against Racism”.
During a panel discussion, executives and active and former top athletes described their experiences with hatred and exclusion. They showed how each individual can campaign for social justice in sport and in all areas of society.
“During my professional days in the Bundesliga, I saw calls against foreign players coming from the stands, but racism in our society is often not always immediately recognizable,” said Munich CEO and former world-class goalkeeper Oliver Kahn.
